The aim of the Student Council at is to provide students with greater involvement in the decision making procedures of the school and to help them learn about how democracy works. One child from each class is elected by secret ballot after presenting as to why they are a good candidate and are appointed as representatives for their class to the council for the duration of the school year.
The Student Council generally meets each Thursday. These meetings are facilitated by teachers Ms. Moloney, Ms. Reilly-Parrish & Ms. Cooney with council representatives collecting ideas and suggestions for the agenda from each class ahead of each meeting. Suggestions are then discussed, prioritised and are brought to the attention of the school’s principal and to staff meetings.
Our Student Council has been responsible for a number of positive changes in the school over the past couple of years- including: wellbeing days, fundraising for new sports equipment and charity, school yard, initiatives, organising special occasion events, school library etc.
Each student on the student council is assigned a specific role-president, secretary, photographers, displays monitors, communication liaisons etc.
